Ginger Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) flour
  • 8 oz (230g) brown sugar
  • 1.5 tsp ginger
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 6 oz (170g) margerine
  • 12 oz (340g) golden syrup
  • 250 ml milk
  • 0.5 tsp bicarbonate of soda

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350F (180C)
  2. Grease and line a loaf tin
  3. Mix all dry ingredients
  4. Warm the sugar, margerine and syrup (NOT HOT)
  5. Warm the milk
  6. Beat the egg
  7. Combine all ingredients and mix well
  8. Bake for 1.5 hours
